Just a Few Common Questions our Vet's Ask

How can an Assistance Dog help with my PTSD?

* An Assistance Dog can help give you a peace of mind by giving you a full time partner and friend. This 4-Pawed partner will watch your back and alert you when someone is walking up behind you. If you take sleep medications and need help waking up in the morning, they can help with that too. They can help by circling you and creating a barrier of your personal space, so that someone don't get too close.

How can an Assistance Dog help with my TBI?

* An Assistance Dog can provide you balance and alert you when it is time to perform certain daily tasks. If getting up out of a chair is a hard task for you to do, then a Service Dog can help you get up and moving.

I'm an amputee can a Assistance Dog help me?

* In addition to all the things a Service Dog can help you with, our dogs can be trained to help retrieve your prosthetic limbs as well as assist in taking them off.

PTSD is a very serious disorder and can sometimes come up in the form of depression. Most recipients with Assistance Dogs find that they are less depressed and love having the companionship of their 4-Pawed friend around. Many say that it is easier to get up and do things that they otherwise would just not do anymore. Such as going for a walk, with having a Service Dog they look forward to that walk. Some recipients didn't even want to get out of bed, once they got their Service Dog, they look forward to that dog coming and nudging them to get up. Whether it's a good or bad day, they let you know they are right there waiting to help you through anything that you encounter. Our clients have told us over and over they enjoy having that unconditional love a 4-Pawed friend has to offer. For many, it's a love that is unmatched and like no other they have ever experienced.

If any of the above injuries apply to you, or you have any other military related injury, please contact us at New Hope Assistance Dogs. We can go over your injuries and help you to see how a custom trained 4-Pawed Assistance Dog can help make your day more independent. Not only do Service Dogs provide help to you daily, but the companionship is unmatched by any other. Our goal is to help Veterans receive the help they need to get back to leading a normal civilian life.
